Discover Addu
The first marathon held in Addu City, “Addu Marathon 2017”, has concluded today. The event consisting of marathon, half marathon, 10Km, 5Km and a special 2Km event for children, went on with a lot of excitement and competitiveness. The marathon began at 3AM in the morning and the award ceremony finished at 10AM and although the weather was not too favorable, the immense support from onlookers was endless and all the runners braved the rain and completed the race.The event was an overall success and all the participants were very satisfied. Even though it was the first event of its kind to be held here, and with a large number of participants, everything went without incident. The main sponsor for “Addu Marathon” was Feel Maldives and supported by MPL, MTCC, Paan Pino’s, Sarusana, Addu Live and Falak Sports. The event got support from the Maldives Police Service, Maldives Red Crescent, Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, IMDC and the Maldives National Defense Force. A huge number of volunteers from Addu High School participated in all aspects of the race. Deputy mayor of Addu City Mr. Mohamed Yasrif also joined the event and thanked the organizers on behalf of Addu City Council and the people of Addu, for making this event such a success and encouraged more of such events to be held in Addu city in the future. The team “iRunners” worked tirelessly round the clock to make the marathon the successful event it was.
