Addu is gearing up for an exciting event on 4th May 2019 during the pre-Ramadan festival of 2019. Endurance Athlete Ahmed Athif will be challenging himself to swim from Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo to Hithadhoo, crossing an estimated 18km distance. According to Athif and the organisers, the main objective of this event is to draw attention to maritime pollution and raise awareness to save the oceans. Running up to the main event on Saturday, a small gathering will be held on Friday afternoon in Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo to educate the community about maritime pollution and conservation of the oceans.
The swim will start at 8am Saturday morning and will take an estimated 6 to 9 hours to reach Hithadhoo. In addition to Athif, renowned veteran open water swimmer Anwar with Addu athletes from Maldives Lifeguards Association Aaish, Nathoof, Ibaan, Shaha and Maavee will be joining the swim. The Mayor of Addu City, Mr. Abdulla Sodiq will also be joining the athletes at the finish line.
